Luyi is the University Guidance Counsellor at Wellington College International Tianjin. She is a Chinese Canadian who grew up in a bicultural background. She was born and raised in Shanghai until the age of 12 years. Before moving to Tianjin, Luyi spent over eight years working in Canada. She first worked as an ESL teacher in a secondary school in Vancouver and then became an academic counsellor helping pupils with university applications and career placement. There, she had helped many Canadian and international students to receive offers from many world top tier universities including UC Berkley, Cornell, Princeton, Stanford, UBC and University of Toronto. With 5 years of teaching and counselling experiences, she was then hired to work for a famous British academy as an academic director.
Luyi graduated from the University of Victoria with a major in geography and a minor in international business. She then did her postgraduate teaching qualification in EAL teaching. She is passionate about working with people from across the world. She is determined to provide as many opportunities as she can to help the Wellingtonians to get into the best universities in the world. She can’t wait to share her experiences in international students’ North American university application tips with all the EdFest audiences.
